Ralph's On The Park

Ralph's On The Park

I recently had dinner at Ralph's On The Park, 900 City Park Ave
New Orleans, LA, 70119
(504) 488-1000

The ambience of this establishment was both warm and classy. One can expect to have a comfortable meal here.

The service was exquisite and very professional. Making reservations was easy and when I needed to change my reservation, that was easy as well.

The wait staff was attentive, without being bothersome. My waiters, Jenn and Charles were very polite, classy and knowledgable about the menu.

My appetizer, which Jenn recommended, was awesome!

I had been anticipating dining at this restaurant for quite some time so my biggest disappointment was the entrée. While the flavors were good, the textures of the lamb were tough and the beans hard. :-(

In spite of being disappointed, I do plan on giving them a second chance to impress me soon.

C & A Seafood

C&A Seafood
1429 South Jefferson Davis Parkway
504-822-8497

A nice little place for lunch or a mid day hang out. There is a selection of seafood, sausages, various plate meals and sandwiches to please most every palate.

I had the grilled shrimp and catfish platter. I found the size of the filets and the shrimp to be, well, shrimpish. I was surprised to see that given the large size of the shrimp boiled seafood section. The food was tasty and the atmosphere enjoyable with the ample TV screens to enhance your lunch time distraction.

Overall, a nice place. But I will try the boiled seafood the next time.

El Gato Negro

El Gato Negro

I recently had occasion to eat at both of a restaurant's locations:

El Gato Negro Mexican Restaurant
300 Harrison Ave, New Orleans, LA 70124

And

El Gato Negro Mexican Restaurant
81 French Market Pl, New Orleans, LA 70116

I had the same dish, the seared salmon salad at both locations and the meal was equally delicious at both places.

At my first visit, I had the guacamole dip, made fresh at the table. Absolutely deelish!

At my second visit, I her the shrimp and merliton appetizer. Shrimp, merliton and mushrooms in a sweet sauce I hope they will bottle some day. I poured some of that sauce on my salmon salad...awesome addition. I might share my secret with the chef?

The atmosphere here is casual so you should not be concerned with getting all gussied up. With the party that will be going on in your mouth, I don't think anyone is paying attention to anyone else's attire. The place has a nice 'family' feel.

Lisa, my server, was exquisitely happy and had a warm and pleasant smile.

I have had the occasion to visit this restaurant in the past and cannot recall ever having a bad meal. I have also been a fan of the owner, Johhny, for quite some time and can attest to his dedication to his art.

I will definitely continue to visit this restaurant. My taste buds do compel me!

Bonefish Grill

Bonefish Grill

My new best foodie friend @gagonmyswag recommended I try the Bacon Wrapped Scallops at the Bonefish Grill
4848 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Ste B
Metairie, LA, 70006
(504) 780-8991

So, under the guise of celebrating my friend Stephanie's birthday, we proceeded to the Bonefish Grill.

Upon entering the dimly lit restaurant, one would feel a soft atmosphere. However, the open space and the sheer number of people squeezed into the dining room is reminiscent of low- light cafeteria dining trying to pass for romantic ambience.

My choice of appetizer? Bacon Wrapped Scallops of course! And yes they were indeed delicious, accompanied by a diced mango salad. I must confess though that if you wrapped nails in bacon I would probably eat them.

For my entrée I selected the Chilean Sea Bass. I was reminded of the fabulous sea bass I had at PF Cheng's a couple of years ago and hoped my Chilean Sea Bass could measure up to the fond sea bass memories I have.

I must declare that sea bass is my new favorite fish! My Chilean Sea Bass was tender and exquisitely prepared. I had more mango stuff and some diced sweet potatoes as sides.

As I ate my food, my friend and I kept up our conversation. However, it was difficult to focus on what she was saying. All I could hear was myself saying, 'Wow' and 'Hmmm' with each tasty bite.

Our server Ashleigh, a really cool chick, commented on the cleanliness of my plates with, "You liked everything!" To which I concurred.

Being satiated and satisfied, I had no intentions on eating dessert, but someone said "Creme Brûlée". I envisioned the tiny little bowl you usually get, but was presented with a huge portion of chilled delight. It was a struggle to finish, but somehow I persevered.

I look forward to my next visit to the Bonefish Grill for more bacon wrapped scallops and whatever else @gagonmyswag can recommend.

Bangkok Thai Restaurant

Bangkok Thai Restaurant

My friend and I recently ate lunch at Bangkok Thai Restaurant at 513 S Carrollton Ave, New Orleans, LA 70118
(504) 861-3932

It is not trying to be a fancy place so the lack of ambience was not a consideration. So this was all about the food.

Well, one reason I like Thai is the unique rice they serve. I may have missed this option on their comprehensive menu, but the rice that I received was the basic white variety. Was it somewhere on the menu as a separate side? If it was, it should not have been.

The most detracting aspect of the meal was the very salty taste of the food. The meal should have been followed up with a free serving of hypertension meds. If my cardiologist ever finds out I ate there, it would be bypass surgery for sure.

Yet, in spite of that, when asked the obligatory question, "How's everything?" My friend and I provided the obligatory answer, "Fine!" Why do we always do that?

The fact I walked in at 12:30PM, and there were only two customers in the place should have been a clue. Perhaps Inspector Clouseau can accompany on my next outing?

Second chances on this one? I don't know. Perhaps so. The after dinner candy was terrific!
